Jennifer Lawrence Talks Growing Up a Tomboy in Louisville

ABC/Fred Lee(NEW YORK) — Jennifer Lawrence is the face of Dior and always a breathtaking presence on the red carpet.

But it wasn’t always that way, the Oscar winner, 24, told Madame Figaro. Indeed, she admitted she used to be kind of a tomboy.

“I hated my first dress for red carpets, because I never felt comfortable in these glamorous dresses,” she said.

She continued, “In Louisville, when I was a child, I inherited clothes from my two older brothers [Ben and Blaine] that I put together with things that my mother unearthed out of yard sales. I was a tomboy.”

But after starring in The Hunger Games franchise and winning an Oscar for her work in Silver Linings Playbook, Lawrence said, “only recently [is it] that I discovered the beauty of high fashion.”

Still, Lawrence admits she has always been hesitant to be thrust into the A-list celebrity world. She waited “three long days” before accepting her role in The Hunger Games when she received the offer a few years back.

“I dreamed of independent films. I was afraid of being identified as a prominent character for young people,” she said.

She wasn’t sure she wanted “this life,” she said. But “I was afraid of one day regretting having missed the [opportunity]. Since then, I realized that whatever I do, at any level, I would lose a part of my private life.”
