Mormon Bishop Apologizes over anti-Reid Blog

RENO, Nev. (AP) – A Mormon bishop in Los Angeles apologized Sunday for the tone of a blog saying Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was unworthy to enter the faith’s temples, but stood by his criticism of Reid’s stance on some issues.
Mark Paredes says he also apologizes for giving the impression he was criticizing Reid in his role as a bishop and for implying he was in a position to judge whether the senator was worthy to enter the temples.
But Paredes says he can’t apologize for criticizing what he called Reid’s advocacy of certain issues such as gambling, same-sex marriage and abortion rights.
His blog, titled “Good Riddance to Harry Reid, the Mormon Senate Leader,” drew criticism from the church and Mormon Democrats after it was published Wednesday in a Jewish newspaper.
