Va.) — Jaden Oberkrom’s 37-yard field goal as time expired helped number seven Texas Christian University (TCU) erase a 13-point deficit and defeat 20th ranked West Virginia 31-30 on Saturday afternoon. The Horned Frogs (7-1) forced five turnovers to help in the comeback effort.

It was the first time this year that TCU played outside the state of Texas and they struggled to start the game. West Virginia (6-3) led 13-0 with less that four minutes to play in the first quarter before Deante’ Gray caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from Trevone Boykin to put the Horned Frogs on the board.

Following a scoreless second quarter, TCU took the lead five minutes into the third when Boykin scampered into the end zone for a 14-13 lead. The Mountaineers were able to regain their 13-point lead though, scoring twice in 25 seconds. After Dreamius Smith’s five-yard touchdown run, Terrell Chestnut picked up a fumble and ran 35-yards for another touchdown and a 27-14 West Virginia lead.

Once again, the Horned Frogs found a way to get back into the game. Trailing 30-21 early in the fourth quarter, TCU drove down the field before B.J. Catalon ran in from six yards out to get within one possession. TCU then forced a West Virginia punt with 2:07 to play and reached the Mountaineers 25-yard line to set up Oberkrom’s heroics.

Despite the win, the Horned Frogs were held to a season-low 389 yards of offense one week after putting up 82 points in a win over Texas Tech.
