Republicans Face Competitors Going into Election

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter is seeking to secure a rare third term, but he’s facing competition from Democratic challenger A.J. Balukoff and Libertarian candidate John Bujak.

As the Republican incumbent in a red-leaning state, the threat of Otter being ousted from office isn’t strong.

However, Otter is running for office after the political veteran barely won in the GOP May primary election against a tea party favorite candidate.

This has led political analysts, along with Balukoff, to wonder if Idaho is facing “Otter fatigue.”

Other competitive races include secretary of state and state superintendent of public instruction.

Republican Lawerence Denney is running against Democratic challenger Holli Woodings to be Idaho’s next elections chief. Meanwhile, Republican Sherri Ybarra is facing Democratic candidate Jana Jones for state schools chief.
