However, the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and NCAA may ultimately lose the war if most Americans have any say in it.

A Seton Hall Sports Poll on sports wagering found that 55 percent of 847 adults surveyed across the U.S. believe it should be legal, with just a third siding with the NFL and the other sports groups that believe it hurts the integrity of the games played.

Meanwhile, 13 percent had no opinion on the issue or didn’t know.

Asked how sports wagering should be regulated, two-thirds said on a state-by-state basis while 29 percent think it should fall under the realm of the federal government.

New Jersey has since filed an appeal to legalize sports betting. A majority of state residents support the effort, according to the Seton Hall poll.
