Will Muschamp Out as Florida Head Coach at End of Season

Getty Will Muschamp?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1416169084136Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images(GAINSVILLE, Fl.)  — The University of Florida announced Sunday that Will Muschamp will not return as head coach of the football team when the season is over.

Coming off a 23-20 overtime loss to South Carolina, the Gators’ record fell to 5-4, with all four losses coming in the SEC.

Muschamp is 27-20 in his tenure at Florida since taking over for Urban Meyer in 2011.  Muschamp was a hot head coaching prospect while the defensive coordinator at the University of Texas. Florida chose to sign Muschamp away from Texas as their own defensive coordinator and heir to Meyer.

“Upon evaluation of our football program, we are not where the program needs to be and should be. I’ve always said that our goal at the University of Florida is to compete for championships on a regular basis,” Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said in a statement.
