The 77-year-old comedian was reached at his Massachusetts home and, according to reporter Stacy Brown, he sounded “upbeat.” He declined to address the rape and sex abuse allegations that have been lobbied against him by a growing list of women.

Most recently, model Beverly Johnson claimed he drugged her at his home during the mid-1980s.

He did, however, advise the African-American media to be impartial. “Let me say this. I only expect the black media to uphold the standards of excellence in journalism and when you do that you have to go in with a neutral mind,” he said.

Cosby also spoke about how his wife of more than 50 years, Camille Cosby, was dealing with the strain of the allegations. “Love and the strength of womanhood,” he said. “Let me say it again, love and the strength of womanhood. And, you could reverse it, the strength of womanhood and love.”

That’s all he divulged before cutting the interview short. “They don’t want me talking to the media,” he said.

Cosby’s lawyer has previously denied the allegations made against the comedian. He has never faced criminal charges in connection with the claims.
