Chryst played quarterback for the school from 1986-1988. He was also an assistant at Wisconsin from 2002-2011 and would replace the recently departed Gary Andersen. Andersen stepped down earlier this week to join Oregon State as their head football coach.

In three seasons at Pitt, Chryst went 19-19 after replacing Todd Graham.

“It is our practice not to comment on the personnel searches of other institutions,” Pittsburgh said in a statement, according to the Journal Sentinel. “Paul Chryst is the University of Pittsburgh’s head coach, has been recruiting all week on behalf of the program and will begin preparations for Pitt’s bowl game this weekend.”

This past season, Wisconsin finished 10-3, first in the Big-Ten West, and will play Auburn in the Outback Bowl on January 1.
