The team announced Tuesday that Haslett, who was held over by current head coach Jay Gruden from the previous regime, would not return next season.

The Redskins, 4-12, tied for third worst, allowing 27.4 points per game and ranked 20th allowing 357 yards per game.

“Jim and I have had discussions over the last few days and have decided that it’s best for everyone that we have a new defensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins,” Gruden said in a team statement. “I wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

Haslett had been with the team since 2010 before previously serving in the same role with the St. Louis Rams.
