Flyers Goalie Steve Mason Out Two Weeks with Knee Injury
Published at(PHILADELPHIA) — The Philadelphia Flyers disappointing season could get worse as goaltender Steve Mason will miss the next couple weeks due to a “lower body injury.”
Mason left Saturday’s game against the Boston Bruins early in the first period, after making a save on Craig Cunningham.
It is unknown exactly when Mason will be able to return, but he could make his return after the All-Star break.
“It’s hard to say,” Flyers general manager Ron Hextall told CSNPhilly.com of Mason’s return. “We’ll see how things go with Mase and when he’s ready to play. If he’s ready to play, I’m assuming he’ll play whenever that game may be. He’s obviously our No. 1 guy and we want him back. But if it’s after the break, it’s after the break.”
In his third season in Philadelphia, Mason is 8-12-6 with a 2.46 goals-against average and .920 save percentage.
Ray Emery will take over as the team’s starter while Rob Zepp will serve as the backup.
At the halfway point of the season, the Flyers are 16-19-7, the sixth-worst record in the NHL.
