Idina Menzel to Sing National Anthem at Super Bowl
Published at(NEW YORK) — Katy Perry’s playing the halftime show, and now we know who’ll be singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl on Feb. 1: Idina Menzel.
The Tony-winning actress and Frozen star will belt out “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the game in Arizona next month. Menzel will be the eighth consecutive woman to sing the anthem; the last male performer to sing it was Billy Joel, at Super Bowl XLI.
In addition, newly-minted Oscar nominee John Legend will sing “America the Beautiful” as part of the pre-game festivities, airing on NBC.
Among the stars who’ve performed that song at the Super Bowl over the years: Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige and Mark Anthony, Faith Hill, Queen Latifah and the late Ray Charles.
