Washington introduced Scherzer on Wednesday after he signed a seven-year deal.

“It was jaw-dropping,” Scherzer said of the $210 million deal.  “You just can’t even fathom it sometimes.”

“You work so hard to put yourself in this position,” Scherzer continued. “It’s all about winning, but I don’t play this game for money, but at the same time when you have an offer like that, it just makes you go, wow.”

The 2013 A.L. Cy Young Award winner will join a rotation that includes Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmerman, Doug Fister and Gio Gonzalez.

“It’s pretty easy, and it’s one: winning,” Scherzer said. “When you look at the near-term and long-term, this is an organization you want to be a part of.”

The righthander was 18-5 with a 3.15 ERA last season. He struck out 252 batters.
