Report: Seahawks CB Richard Sherman Could Need Tommy John Surgery
Published at(NEW YORK) — Not only did the Seattle Seahawks lose Super Bowl XLIX in heartbreaking fashion, Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman reportedly played with torn ligaments in his left elbow that could result in him undergoing Tommy John Surgery.
Sherman hurt his elbow during the NFC Championship Game. While he didn’t miss a single practice leading up to the Super Bowl or a single play during the actual game, Sherman was still bothered by the injury.
As it turned out, the injury was worse than expected. It was originally thought to be an elbow strain.
Tommy John Surgery is a procedure that is more common in baseball than football. Sherman would have the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) undergo reconstruction using a tendon from elsewhere in the body.
Sherman is arguably the best cornerback in the NFL. In four NFL seasons, Sherman has 24 interceptions.
