Magnitude 5.3 Quake Shakes Central Mexico
Published at(MEXICO CITY) — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck in central Mexico on Friday, about 100 miles southeast of Mexico City.
The epicenter of the quake was near Tulcingo del Valle, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The tremor was centered about six miles underground.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The USGS notes that Mexico is among the world’s most seismically active regions because it sits atop three large tectonic plates.
