Masked Gunmen Open Fire at Vehicles on Kabul Highway

iStock/Thinkstock(KABUL, Afghanistan) — Masked gunmen opened fire on three passing vehicles on Kabul Kandahar highway Tuesday, killing 13 people including women and children.
The incident happened in Sayed Abad district of eastern Wardak province, a region where many districts are controlled by the Taliban, though they’ve denied any involvement in the shootings.
“The Islamic Emirate condemned this and it’s the act of the intelligence networks,’’ said Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid said. He would not name the intelligence network to which he was referring, but insists the shootings were not carried by the Taliban.
Tuesday’s incident happened on the same highway where, a month ago, masked gunmen kidnapped 31 Shiite passengers.
