Minoso, Chicago’s 1st Black MLB Player Dies
Published at(CHICAGO) — Minnie Minoso, Chicago’s 1st African-American Major League Baseball player has passed away.
Minoso established himself in his first at-bat in the majors in 1951 by hitting a two-run home run.
“We have lost our dear friend and a great man,” White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf said in a release. “Many tears are falling.”
The medical examiner’s office did not offer details right away, however, there is some question about his age, but the White Sox say he was 90.
