One Dead in Florida Helicopter Crash

John Roman/iStock/Thinkstock(ORLANDO, Fla.) — One person was killed when a helicopter crashed in a residential neighborhood in Orlando on Sunday, officials said.

The Orlando Fire Department said the helicopter crashed into an apartment on top of a garage around 2:15 p.m..

No one was in the apartment, but fire officials said the crash sparked a fire.

“I heard an explosion and the power went off immediately and I knew it was too loud to be a transformer, so ran out the house and could see the black smoke and the flames,” said a neighbor who lived three doors away from the affected apartment.

Emergency officials said Sunday afternoon it was not clear how many people were onboard the chopper, or what caused the crash.
