A-Rod homered twice in the Yankees 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night. It was career home run number 657 and 658. He’s just two home runs away from tying Willie Mays for fourth on the all-time list.

“I try not to think about that,” Rodriguez said. “I’m just really focusing on trying to help the team win.”

Through 10 games this season, Rodriguez leads the Yankees in batting average, home runs, and RBIs.

Rodriguez was suspended the entire 2014 season for his role in the Biogenesis scandal.

“More than anything, I’m just feeling very grateful to be back playing baseball,” he said. “I’m very grateful to (owners) Hank and Hal [Steinbrenner] for giving me the opportunity to put the uniform on again. It’s something I don’t take for granted and it’s much appreciated. It just feels good to be playing baseball. I’m having fun out there.”

Rodriguez is under contract for three more seasons.
