That’s statistic comes from research commissioned by The Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society.

Despite the poor wages earned by technical writers and academics, which is less than minimum wage, a YouGov.com survey finds that writing still remains the most desired job in Britain.

Nevertheless, one’s love of writing won’t likely translate into a fortune for most.  Five percent of Britain’s top authors take home half of all the income earned by professional writers there.

J.K. Rowling, famous for the Harry Potter series, made about $14 million in 2014, while Fifty Shades author E.L James earned a shade over $10 million last year.
