Kane, one of the top players in the NHL, suffered the injury back on Feb. 24 and was originally expected to miss 12 weeks. He recently took part in his first full-contact team practice, and could play as soon as Wednesday.

“Where I am right now is just kind of go through practice today and see how I feel, and get as ready as possible and try to feel like what it’s like to be in a game simulation,” Kane said Monday. “I thought it was a good day, good practice for the team overall. Overall, I feel pretty good. Just got to take it day by day right now.”

Before getting hurt, Kane was tied for the NHL lead in points with 27 goals and 34 assists in 61 games.

The Blackhawks went 12-8-1 during Kane’s absence. Chicago will face the Nashville Predators in the first round of the playoffs.
