Down Day on Wall Street as Traders Await Quarterly Reports

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped below 18,000, losing 80.61 to close at 17,977.04.

The Nasdaq slipped 7.73 to a close of 4,988.25, while the S&P 500 ended the day at 2,092.43, down 9.63.

A report from Georgetown University shows that there are more jobs available that require a college degree than there were in past year. Bloomberg News reports that the number of high-skill jobs has risen over the past four decades, while low-skill or low-wage labor has dipped 10 percent in that same timeframe.

Also on Monday, the National Basketball Association and PepsiCo announced a deal making the beverage company’s products the official foods and beverages of the league. Coca-Cola had been the league’s official sponsor since 1986.

Traders are also waiting on JPMorgan Chase, Johnson & Johnson and Intel, all of which are all expected to release their quarterly reports on Tuesday.
