Through a statement released by the Hawks, Sefolosha said, “I am in great pain, have experienced a significant injury and that injury was caused by the police.”

Officers claim that Sefolosha and fellow Hawk Pero Antic were interfering with a crime scene where Pacers forward Chris Copeland was stabbed outside of a Chelsea night club.

A pair of videos released by TMZ show that police officers aggressively wrestled Sefolosha to the ground outside in the early hours of April 8, but the video does prove conclusively that an injury occurred.

Sports Illustrated adds that the officer in the arrest was the “initial aggressor” towards Sefolosha.

Sefolosha was held in custody overnight after his arrest and his injury was not treated until the next day.

ESPN reports that the NYPD Internal affairs bureau has reached out to Sefolosha for an interview regarding his complaint.

The NBA and NBPA are also monitoring the situation.
