Nearly 8 percent of Americans have a drinking disorder, according to the world’s first comprehensive report on global alcohol and drug use, as reported by the U.K.’s Daily Mail.

The study by Australia’s University of Adelaide shows that Americans are far above the 4.9 percent average for the world’s population when it comes to drinking problems. It also reveals 68.9 percent of people living in the U.S. consume alcohol at least once a year.

Despite the high numbers, the U.K. surpasses the U.S. with some 12 percent of people suffering from alcohol abuse issues.

Other results show that Australia has the highest numbers when it comes to illegal drug use, such as cannabis and ecstasy.

Researchers say alcohol and tobacco are the most commonly used drugs in the world, and so cause the most deaths each year.
