Five for Families: ‘Cokeville Miracle’ has faith-affirming theme

In theaters: 'The Cokeville Miracle'

Deseret News reporter Trent Toone wrote that “The Cokeville Miracle” is “the true story of a man and his wife taking an elementary school full of children and teachers hostage with a bomb in 1986 and the incredible events that unfolded” and quoted director T.C. Christensen as saying that the film shows that “God still does miracles today and his hand can be in our lives.” The film is rated PG-13 and “contains scenes with explosions and one scary image of a woman engulfed in flames,” Toone wrote. Redbox: 'When the Game Stands Tall'

Parent Previews wrote that although the first 45 minutes of the film doesn’t have a lot of football as it sets up the characters and storylines, the film is “remarkably inspiring” as it shows a football coach who makes “all the difference to the team.” The film is rated PG. Netflix: 'Chicken Run'

Pluggedin calls the film “charming,” praising it for its use of stop-motion animation that gives “characters a distinctly different look” from other animated films. “A smart script … makes this a movie sure to entertain adults as well as children,” the website states. iTunes: 'October Sky'

Common Sense Media calls the film a “moving drama” about a “tense father-son relationship,” stating that its main theme is “following your dreams.” The film is rated PG, but the website notes that it has a few instances of “some surprisingly strong language” and “a few mild sexual references.” Ok.com recommends the film for viewers 8 and older.

Amazon Instant: 'Despicable Me'

MovieGuide.org refers to the film as “a very witty, heartfelt” film, stating “The ending to ‘Desipcable Me’ is so uplifting and redemptive that it overshadows some of the action violence, slapstick comedy and light scatological references.” “Minions,” a spin-off of “Despicable Me,” hits theaters July 10.
