Lady Gaga’s “American Horror Story: Hotel” Character Has a Taste for Blood

Monty Brinton/CBS(NEW YORK) — Now we know why Lady Gaga dyed her pool blood-red for that American Horror Story: Hotel cast party. In a new cover story for Entertainment Weekly, we learn that Gaga’s AHS character has a unique obsession with the sticky red stuff.
Show creator Ryan Murphy reveals that Gaga’s character, The Countess, maintains her youthful glow by drinking human blood. He says she’s not a vampire, though.
“I prefer the term ‘ancient blood virus,’ ” Murphy says. “It’s really a form of hemophilia, in a way.”
The Countess — who owns the mysterious Hotel Cortez — is also entangled in a love triangle with the similarly blood-obsessed Donovan, played by Matt Bomer, and a male model named Tristan, played by Finn Wittrock. Angela Bassett plays Ramona Royale, an actress and former lover of The Countess seeking revenge.
But we’d think twice before messing with The Countess, especially since she wears a fashionable, yet deadly chainmail glove. “She’s extremely strong,” Gaga says. “She’s been through so much. It’s kind of impossible for anything to penetrate her.”
The singer tells the mag she’s relishing the show’s macabre storyline. “I’ve just been weeping while I’m here because I have returned to something I’ve believed in so much, which is the art of darkness,” Gaga tells the mag. “It’s not something that everyone understands, but, for the people that do — Horror Storyfans, my fans — there is a true connection between us, and it’s a language within itself.”
American Horror Story: Hotel premieres October 7 on FX.
