IDAHO FALLS — Bonneville County Sheriff deputies deployed a Taser on 27-year-old man after they say he fought with them during a traffic stop Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Sgt. Bryan Lovell says deputies stopped a woman in a car between Fred Meyer and Radio Shack on Yellowstone Highway around noon.

According to Lovell, deputies were given a false name before noticing Jason Cartier in the vehicle. Cartier was wanted on a Bonneville County warrant for felony delivery of a controlled substance.

When deputies tried to take Cartier into custody, Lovell says the suspect kicked and hit three deputies multiple times. One deputy deployed a taser and Cartier was subdued.

Lovell says two deputies were treated and released by medical personnel. Their injuries are not considered serious.

Cartier was taken to the hospital before being booked in the Bonneville County Jail. In addition to his outstanding felony warrant, Cartier faces felony charges for possession of controlled substances and battery on an officer. He also faces misdemeanor charges of paraphernalia and drug possession, obstructing, and providing false information to officers.

The woman driving the car has not been charged.
