Newborn found dead in diaper bag near Twin Falls

TWIN FALLS — A newborn baby girl was found dead inside a diaper bag on the side of a road early Thursday, according to the Twin Falls Times-News.

The infant’s body was found on the west side of South Blue Lakes Blvd. by a Twin Falls County Sheriff’s deputy about 1:30 a.m., Lori Stewart, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, told the Times-News.

“The deputy was just driving on routine patrol and saw the bag on the side of the road,” Stewart said. “He stopped to grab the bag, thinking it would just be a case of found property, and that’s when he discovered the infant.”

The only other thing inside the diaper bag was a pair of adult jeans, Stewart said.

KMVT reports sheriff deputies believed the girl deserved a better name than ‘Baby Jane Doe’ so they collectively decided on the name ‘Angel Rose.’

A Twin Falls funeral home has agreed to cover the costs of the infant’s funeral, according to KMVT.

The girl appeared to be full-term, but the forensic pathologist who conducted the autopsy was unable to determine if she was born alive or stillborn, Stewart told the Times-News. The autopsy also did not reveal an apparent cause of death.
