UPDATE: Police investigating suspicious roadside death in Jackson

The following is a news release from the Teton County Wyoming Sheriff’s Office.

UPDATE:

The Teton County Wyoming Sheriff’s Office has positively identified the victim, however, they are not releasing his name at this time due to the next of kin not being notified yet.

“We strongly believe that there is a witness or witnesses that saw the victim just prior to his death. If this was just an unfortunate accident we need to know that,” Detective Sgt. Todd Stanyon said.

The Sheriff’s Office and Teton County Coroner’s Office are working to locate and notify next of kin. An exact cause of death is pending an autopsy and findings by the Coroner.

ORIGINAL STORY

JACKSON, Wyoming — Teton County Wyoming Sheriff’s Office received a report of an unresponsive male lying in the roadway on South Tensleep Drive just west of South Highway 89 at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23.

Jackson Police Officers and Teton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene. Upon arrival they determined that the male victim was deceased.

It is unknown at this time what the cause of death is, but it is being investigated as suspicious in nature.

The Teton County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office have been unable to identify the victim. The victim is described as a black male, approximately 5’ 09” tall and 180 pounds. He was wearing dark clothing.

Anyone who may have seen the victim on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 23, or has information leading to his identification is urged to call the Teton County Sheriff’s Office at (307) 733-2331.
