Local businesses rushing to fill Valentine’s Day orders

IDAHO FALLS — Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and local businesses are preparing to fill orders for customer’s romantic gestures.

“We get several truck loads in of flowers and other products — especially for this holiday,” Clark Higham, the manager of The Rose Shop, told EastIdahoNews.com.

There’s more to preparing for the holiday than just ordering extra flowers. Preparations begin weeks in advance and extra staff are brought in to help make arrangements during the Valentine’s blitz.

“One year we had a man who wanted to send a dozen roses every half hour, on the hour, to his sweetheart,” Higham said.

The rush is real at The Rose Shop but so far the store hasn’t had any outlandish custom orders.

“This year (Valentine’s Day) does land on a Sunday, so we don’t need quite as much help, but it will still be really busy,” Higham said.

Typically orders are higher when Valentine’s Day is during the week as opposed to the weekend, according to Higham.

Higham said customers spend anywhere from $40 to $200 on a Valentine’s order – the most popular being a dozen roses.

Orders have ranged from 300 roses to add-ons like gifts, chocolates, or stuffed animals.

Like the fast paced workers at The Rose Shop, employees at Sarah’s Candy Cottage said they’re feeling the love this Valentine’s season.

“Oh mercy! We’re gonna make it. Trust me, we are,” employee Angel Lopez said.

Liz Yasaitis, the owner of Sarah’s Candy Cottage, said they have a Valentine’s treat for everyone, but each year one particular order stays high on the request list.

“The big rush is chocolate-dipped strawberries,” Yasaitis said. “We’ll have those all day Friday and Saturday. We use Belgium chocolate. We import the chocolate, everything is hand dipped, hand decorated and then we have beautiful boxes you can put them in.”

In spite of the mad dash for roses and chocolate, owners said their shops will be stocked for those last-minute shoppers.

“If you think it’s too late, it’s not too late. We’re here for you. We can take care of your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day,” Higham said.
