The following is a news release.

IDAHO FALLS — As they say, “laughter is the best medicine” and “charity never faileth.”

Luckily, laughing while being charitable is as easy as showing up at the Hillcrest High School Performing Arts Center on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Stand-up comedian and Idaho Falls native Andrew Hobbs will be returning to perform a live comedy show with a portion of the proceeds going to the Hillcrest Renaissance Program.

Hobbs graduated from Hillcrest High in 2004 and has spent the last decade laying the foundation for his stand-up comedy career, performing anywhere from Houston, Texas to Juneau, Alaska.

Hobbs developed a taste for the spotlight while still a high school student at Hillcrest, where he often found himself in front of the student body with a microphone in his hands.

“At the time, I was just having fun, goofing off,” said Hobbs. “It’s amazing to look back and see how those early opportunities at Hillcrest started this crazy snowball rolling. I’m excited to head back and share some of my experiences with the students who are now starting their own paths at Hillcrest.”

Hobbs now resides in Utah and can be found regularly at Wiseguys Comedy Club in downtown Salt Lake City, where he refines the jokes he takes with him on the road. When he’s not on the road, Hobbs is a familiar face along the Wasatch Front, where he’s a regular feature at several different theaters and venues.

“I thrive off the laughter of others, whether they’re laughing with me or at me,” Hobbs said. “They’re usually laughing at me.”

They’re laughing at him for good reason. Hobbs’ unique comedy style incorporates hilarious stories of self-deprecation, tales of failed romance, observations regarding the behavior of whales, and more. His material appeals to a wide audience, giving everyone something to giggle over.

“Life is funny, if you look at it through the right lens,” said Hobbs. “Creativity loves constraints, and growing up in small-town Idaho seemed to just squeeze the jokes right out of me!”

Half of ticket proceeds will benefit the Hillcrest Renaissance program, an educational enrichment plan designed to improve student leadership, class attendance and school pride. In an effort to further support the students of Hillcrest High, Hobbs is scheduled to visit classrooms and answer questions about entertainment, public speaking, comedy, and all around dream-following.

“Because, who wouldn’t want to hear about success from a 30-year-old single dude with three roommates?” commented Hobbs.

Tickets purchased in advance are $9 for adults and $5 for high school students with student ID and can be purchased online at http://andrew-hobbs-comedy.ticketleap.com/live-in-idaho-falls/.

Remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
