REXBURG — An Idaho Falls man was arrested Monday, Feb. 1 after police said he stole several items from apartments in Rexburg.

Scott Seward-Smith, 23, is facing one count of felony burglary.

Rexburg Police Captain Randy Lewis says the thefts happened Oct. 24. Seward-Smith is accused of entering Brigham Young University-Idaho students apartments and taking a laptop and other electronics. Detectives obtained a search warrant and say they recovered the items in Seward-Smith’s Idaho Falls home.

“We’re looking at other cases to see if he is connected,” Lewis said. “Other charges may be filed.”

According to the Idaho Crime Repository, Seward-Smith was charged in Bonneville County with felony burglary in Oct. 2014. He pleaded guilty to an amended charge of misdemeanor petty theft. Seward-Smith has also pleaded guilty to several other petty theft charges dating back to 2007.
