IDAHO FALLS — An 30-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly using her child’s social security number to try and get a loan.
Idaho Falls Police arrested Christina Smith on a warrant for felony attempted forgery Wednesday, March 9.
Police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen said Smith applied for a $500 payday loan using her name and one of her children’s social security numbers in late January. Loan officers discovered the fraud and contacted police.
Police investigated and requested a warrant Wednesday.
Smith had recently been released early from misdemeanor probation stemming from a petty theft charge where Smith pleaded guilty to stealing $1,096 worth of merchandise from a local Walmart.
Smith was booked into the Bonneville County Jail on Wednesday and was released about 10 minutes later. No bond was set.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this article said Smith was arrested and held at the jail. That was incorrect, jail officials confirm she was released after booking. EastIdahoNews.com apologizes for the error.
