East Idaho Eats: Build your own sandwich at Riverside Deli

IDAHO FALLS – What originally started out, as a “sea shop” selling meats and fishing supplies, is now a frequented sandwich shop for locals.

Riverside Deli in Idaho Falls is located in the front area of a large building that includes multiple businesses owned by the Ball family. The building was built in the 1990s and the deli was an add-on to the front part of the store.

Since then customers say it’s become a community favorite.

“The deli was originally supposed to be a sea store, but the sandwiches took off and that’s what’s there instead,” Brian Jensen manager of Riverside Deli said.

Every sandwich at Riverside Deli is build-your-own. Customers can select from basic menu options and then fill their sandwich with the desired ingredients of their choice.

“Aside from our location which is right next to the river, I really like how big our sandwiches are. It’s great, it’s one of the biggest sandwiches you can find in Idaho Falls,” Jensen said.

Christopher Aguirre said he frequents the shop multiple times a week. He said his favorite is a sandwich is a four-inch Turkey and bacon. He said he likes being able to stack his own sandwich.

“(It’s) just really good. (Riverside has) really good veggies and (the sandwiches are) really big,” Aguirre said.

Jensen said customers usually request two sandwiches in particular, the smoked pork and the combo. In the smoked pork sandwich, the meat is sliced and smoked in-house.

“The smoked pork is one of the favorites we actually run it on special right now,” Jensen said. “Then we also have a combo (sandwich) which is our biggest sandwich it has six layers of meet,” Jensen said.

If sandwiches aren’t preferred, Riverside Deli also offers specialty salads on Wednesdays.

“We get slammed on Wednesdays because we run a three dollar salad. It would feed a family of four easy,” Jensen said.

Jensen said if you haven’t been in before, Riverside’s friendly staff will be there to help you build the perfect sandwich.

“You walk in you feel welcome, you get a big sandwich. It’s just a comfortable atmosphere,” Jensen said.
