Pocatello Mayor to Proclaim Saturday as “United in Support” Day

The following is a news release from the city of Pocatello.
POCATELLO — Mayor Brian Blad and City Council will be taking an official stand against intolerance this weekend.
At Saturday’s free community picnic and celebration of kindness and diversity at Idaho State University, Councilman Jim Johnston is scheduled to read a proclamation declaring April 30, 2016 as “United in Support” Day. The decree, issued by the Mayor and signed in support by the entire council, encourages “the residents of Pocatello to appreciate the loving, diverse, supportive and generous community we know and love and embrace all who live in and visit our city.” It also declares Pocatello as “a community of caring people who have created a healthy, safe and secure place for people of all geographic, ethnic, economic, religious, and lifestyle backgrounds to live, work, raise their families and age with dignity.”
The event begins at 2 p.m. on the Idaho State University Quad.
That same day, a proclamation will be issued to establish Saturday as “Worker Memorial Day.” The edict seeks to remember workers whose lives were lost on the job and asks “all citizens to join in this important observance” and recognizes the hardships their loved ones, friends, and co-workers experience after their death.
