East Idaho State Fair announces theme and grandstand entertainment

  Published at

IDAHO FALLS — The annual East Idaho State Fair is bringing the country back this year. On Wednesday, organizers announced the fair theme and its entertainment lineup.

The theme — “Eat, Drink, and Be Happy” — was picked in conjunction with the fair’s official mascot named Happy, Fair General Manager Brandon Bird said during a news conference.

“There’s a whole lot of happy at the fair. We’re excited for this year’s theme,” Bird said.

The headline performers at this year’s grandstand events are country artists Chris Janson, and Lee Brice. Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand will be the opening act for Janson on Thursday Sept. 8 and Charley Jenkins will be opening for Brice Friday Sept. 9.

Concerts will be priced as one ticket for two nights starting at $39.

The fair is set to host it’s fifth year of the Gem State Classic professional rodeo. The fair’s website says the rodeo will feature world-class competitors from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, and award-winning stock from Powder River Rodeo and D&H Cattle.

Bird said the fair generates and donates a substantial amount of money that goes toward associated youth projects. He said each year the Eastern Idaho State Fair gives back some $400,000 to local communities.

“Each year the Eastern Idaho State Fair brings wonderful entertainment, great opportunities for education and (a chance) for kids to to see a lot of things that they normally don’t see in there day-to day-lives,” Bird said.

Bird said there’s a lot for the public to look forward to, from food to entertainment.

“We announced today some great grandstand entertainment, but no doubt people come to the fair for the great fair food,” Bird said.

The fair will be held Saturday Sept. 3 to Sept.10. The daily schedule can be found on its website.
