AMMON — A man was arrested over the weekend after deputies say he threatened the occupants of an Ammon home with a knife.

On Saturday, June 4, just after 2 p.m., the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office responded to Preston Drive for a report of a disturbance.

When deputies arrived they heard from witnesses that Alexander M. Armstrong, 18, of Idaho Falls, had arrived at the home, and broke through the garage door and physically confronted the occupants.

According a news release, Armstrong had been in a relationship with a member of the household there and was earlier told to stay away from the home.

During the confrontation, Armstrong brandished a small knife and threatened a 30-year-old man who was standing between him and the other occupants inside the home, deputies said.

Another resident called 911, and Armstrong left in his vehicle, which struck another vehicle in the driveway in the process, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies were unable to find or make contact with Armstrong at that time.

On Sunday, deputies made contact with Armstrong and observed damage to his vehicle matching damage to a vehicle at the scene the day before. When they tried to place Armstrong under arrest, he resisted and had to be restrained while being secured in handcuffs, they said.

Armstrong was booked into the Bonneville County Jail for felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor resisting and obstructing an officer, misdemeanor malicious injury to property, misdemeanor unlawful entry, and misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident.

During an arraignment hearing Armstrong pleaded guilty to misdemeanor unlawful entry but remains in the Bonneville County Jail on a $30,000 bond as of Tuesday afternoon. He was also put under a no-contact order.
