IDAHO FALLS – It can only mean one thing when a funky group like Rico Lewis, Razor Sharp Johnson and Freekbass come to town – funk music.

Freekbass and his touring band, The Bump Assembly, will be in Idaho Falls on Thursday as part of the Live United concert series sponsored by United Way of Idaho Falls & Bonneville County. The concert goes from 6 to 9 p.m.

His newest album, “Cincinnati,” is the culmination of everything he has worked on in the last few years. The album was released at the end of 2015, according to a news release.

Growing up in Cincinnati, Freekbass became a fan of funk music from bands like Zapp and Midnight Star, the Freekbass website says.

While working at a music shop to pay for his fist electric bass, he studied the works of Stevie Wonder, Sly Stone and Larry Graham.

Freekbass lost his best friend and drummer, Bamn, earlier this year to a car accident, according to a press release.

“Bamn always expected me to raise the level of playing in the band as high as I could,” Freekbass said in the news release. “After meditating on that and having long talks with both Bootsy and producer Duane Lundy, I knew it was time to take the next step to the next level of the funk.”

Funk musician,Bootsy Collins is a personal friend and mentor of Freekbass.

“Freekbass & The Bump Assembly” will now feature Freekbass on bass and vocals, Razor Sharp Johnson on keyboard and Rico Lewis on drums.
