Pocatello City Council Approves Changes to Beer/Wine Permit Procedure

POCATELLO — Changes are coming to the process of obtaining a beer or wine permit through the City of Pocatello Parks and Recreation Department.

At Thursday’s Pocatello City Council Meeting, the Council approved an ordinance adding six more locations to the list of areas that can be approved by Parks and Recreation Department staff for a beer and wine permit. Those areas are:

– Centennial Park
– Sister City Park
– OK Ward Park
– Ammon Park
– Alameda Park
– Fort Hall Replica

The additions join Upper and Lower Ross Park, Raymond Park, and Bonneville Park as sites where the needed permit can be administratively approved. Previously, to consume beer or wine at the added parks, users would need to seek a special exception before the City Council. Exceptions will still be required if someone seeks to have beer or wine at a location not on the new, full list and requests will be considered at the discretion of the Parks & Recreation Department.

“Following a review of exceptions by staff, it was determined that the new additions are some of the most frequently requested. By adding these to the list, it should make things easier on residents,” said Pocatello Parks and Recreation Director John Banks. “Staff looked into several factors before adding the locations including proximity of pavilions to playground areas and homeowners, historical exceptions, and special event exceptions.”
