Pocatello Library Seeks Yearbook Donations for Idaho Archives

POCATELLO — The Marshall Public Library is looking to preserve Pocatello’s high school history.
During the month of September, the library is asking residents to donate unwanted annuals from any of Pocatello’s high schools. The library maintains its collection of yearbooks in its “Idaho Archives” section, which is accessed for a variety of uses.
“We have people who use the yearbooks to do research for an upcoming class reunion, take a quick trip down memory lane, or help a minor get a library card,” said Trent Clegg, Reference Specialist for the Marshall Public Library. “Like any publicly available and well-used book, these annuals start to show their age after a while.”
The library is looking to maintain two copies of each year, a “browsing” copy to be placed out on the library’s shelves for the public and an “archive” copy to be kept as a back-up.
“The big difference between the annuals and other books is that the library can’t purchase a new copy when one is worn beyond repair. There is a very limited number out in the world,” Clegg said.
