Idaho Falls removing traffic signal due to safety issues

  Published at

The following is a news release from the city of Idaho Falls.

IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Falls Public Works Department will be removing the span-wire traffic signal at the intersection of 1st Street & Freeman Avenue the morning of Thursday, Nov. 10.

The removal of the signal was discussed at a City Council work session on November 7. The structure poses an immediate safety hazard due to failure of the aging poles that support the signal.

The traffic signal does not meet traffic warrants and therefore will be replaced with stop signs on the minor street (Freeman Avenue) approaches. The stop signs will have blinking LED lights around the border for greater visibility.
