Naked Idaho man hops gate at Mormon temple

LOGAN, Utah — A Franklin, Idaho, man reportedly told police he was looking for a wife when he entered the Logan LDS Temple grounds as naked as a newborn baby.

Kelly Thayne Archibald, 53, a convicted sex offender, was booked into the Cache County Jail on Nov. 13 after witnesses reportedly saw him climb the temple gates and wander around the grounds just before 9 p.m. that night.

The individuals who observed his behavior that evening said Archibald dropped a blanket he had wrapped around his waist and climbed the gate — and when police arrived, he exited the temple grounds in the same fashion.

When he was questioned, Archibald reportedly told police he he was unclothed at the temple because that was how he entered the world. His truck was found parked on a nearby sidewalk, but there was no clothing inside. Police say it appears he drove there with just a jacket and the blanket.

Archibald was charged in 1st District Court with lewdness by a sex offender, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. He served time in prison in Idaho after a 2008 conviction in which he pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a child younger than 16.

That prior conviction enhances the lewdness charge from a misdemeanor offense to a felony.
