The following is a news release from the city of Idaho Falls.

IDAHO FALLS — The City of Idaho Falls is working to create a clear and innovative guide for development and redeveloping in the downtown area and would like the community’s input and ideas.

In an effort to improve the downtown area, the guide will address such topics as streetscape design, housing, parking and more.

What is a Downtown Plan? Simply put, it is a map to guide development and redevelopment in downtown Idaho Falls. It provides a single, coordinating vision and guiding principles for topics such as streetscape design, intersection design, housing, a parking strategy, financing strategies, identification of barriers to success, and identifying catalytic projects.

As regional destination, Idaho Falls occupies a place of prominence and garners attention because it is attractive to small and large businesses, recreational enthusiasts, and people seeking a place with that combines big city living with small town charm. In recent years there have been many studies and plans for downtown. However, these plans have lacked the effort and clear responsibility necessary for implementation. As the City continues to implement economic development programs to attract new businesses, shoppers, sporting events, art, entertainment, and recreation, a cohesive plan is necessary to achieve the full potential of downtown Idaho Falls.

The city will host an open house on Tuesday, Jan. 31, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Idaho Falls Library, 457 W. Broadway.

For those unable to attend the meeting, a project website is also available for comments at www.ifdowntown.com or by calling the Idaho Falls Planning Division at (208) 612-8187.
