Bulls Forward Taj Gibson Suffers Sprained Ankle

Bulls Forward Taj Gibson Suffers Sprained Ankle

NBA via Chicago Bulls(PORTLAND, Ore.) -- The Chicago Bulls have to deal with another injured player as power forward Taj Gibson is out with a sprained ankle.

Midway through the third quarter of the team's game against the Portland Trail Blazers, and have to be carried off the floor by a pair of teammates.

X-rays wound up coming back negative, which is good news considering Gibson has dealt with issues in that same ankle in the past.

"It's the same lingering injury," Gibson said. "Just keep trying to play through it, trying to be there for my teammates. Just push through. All summer I was trying to rehab the same ankle and it just keeps flaring up. I keep having these little bum ankle turns. And I just took some time off from it and tried to rush back and this thing happened again. I'm just frustrated."

The 29-year-old Gibson is a key reserve for the Bulls. In 12 games this season, he's averaging 12.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

Richard Hamilton Wants Another Shot in the NBA

Richard Hamilton Wants Another Shot in the NBA

NBA via Detoit Pistons(NEW YORK) -- After taking this past year off, former NBA guard Richard Hamilton will pursue a chance to get back into the league.

Now 36-years-old, Hamilton recently spoke David Alacron of HoopsHype, he expressed his desire to play in the NBA again.

"Yeah, yeah. I think for me, personally, I have to see how my body responds after the summer," he said. "I want to play another year and hopefully get an opportunity to play on a team with a chance to win a title."

Hamilton also added that multiple teams have contacted him about his services for next season.

A 14-year NBA veteran, Hamilton spent the 2012-2013 season as a member of the Chicago Bulls. His minutes and points per game were the lowest of his career since his rookie season back in 1999.

For his career though, Hamilton has always been a steady and reliable wing scorer. He averaged 17.1 points per game during his career with the Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons, and Bulls.

ESPN: Bulls to Sign G Aaron Brooks

ESPN: Bulls to Sign G Aaron Brooks

Sacramento Kings/NBA(NEW YORK) --  The Chicago Bulls are finalizing a contract with free agent guard Aaron Brooks, according to ESPN.

The addition of Brooks gives the Bulls another scoring option off the bench.  Chicago has retooled its roster during the offseason with the additions of former All-Star Pau Gasol, European forward Nikola Mirotic, and rookie guard Doug McDermott in hopes of competing for the Eastern Conference crown.

The 29-year-old Brooks was selected by the Houston Rockets with the 26th overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft out of the University of Oregon.

Brooks averaged 9.0 points and 3.2 assists per game last season while playing for the Rockets and Denver Nuggets.

Jimmer Fredette Heads to the Pelicans

Jed Jacobson/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The New Orleans Pelicans have found a new sharpshooter. The team agreed to terms with Jimmer Fredette on a one-year deal on Thursday, worth the league minimum.

Fredette, who was drafted by the Sacramento Kings, finished last season with the Chicago Bulls after earning his release from the Kings. The guard played sparingly in eight games with the Bulls, spending time on the roster during their playoff run.

Fredette's best season came in his rookie year, 2011-12, when he averaged 7.6 points per game and shot 36.1 percent from beyond the arc.

The Pelicans hope that the former Brigham Young star will replace the production lost when Anthony Morrow signed with Oklahoma City.

Lakers Claim Boozer off Amnesty Waivers

Lakers Claim Boozer off Amnesty Waivers

Christopher Trotman/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Los Angeles Lakers added to their wealth of big men on Thursday, claiming forward Carlos Boozer off amnesty waivers. The Lakers won a blind bid against nine teams, putting up $3.25 million to garner Boozer's rights, according to reports.

"We're very pleased to have won the bidding process and to have gained his rights, and look forward to his contributions next season," Mitch Kupchak, Lakers general manager, said in a news release.

Boozer was released via the amnesty clause by the Chicago Bulls just over a week ago, making it possible for Chicago to sign free agents Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic. The Bulls still must pay the remaining $13.6 million on his 2014-15 contract, but by utilizing the amnesty clause, the contract comes off the books for salary-cap and luxury-tax purposes.

Los Angeles has already signed a pair of power forwards, reaching agreements with both Ed Davis and Jordan Hill. Boozer averaged 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in 76 contests for Chicago last season.

Report: Bulls Inform Carlos Boozer He’s Been Amnestied

Report: Bulls Inform Carlos Boozer He’s Been Amnestied

NBA via Chicago Bulls(NEW YORK) -- The Carlos Boozer-era is over in Chicago as the Bulls have informed him that he's been amnestied.

Boozer was entering the final year of his contract, and was set to earn $16.8 million next season. While Boozer will still receive his full salary, it won't count against the Bulls salary cap.

With the recent additions of Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic, the Bulls front-court suddenly became very crowded, and very expensive.

Boozer’s contract is now put out to bid and teams under the salary cap can enter a blind bid, with the team putting in the highest bid (over a minimum of $1.4 million) can get his services.

The 32-year-old Boozer is still a productive NBA player. This past season for the Bulls, he averaged 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.

He spent four of his 12 overall seasons in the NBA in Chicago, and has career averages of 16.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.

Pau Gasol Announces He’s Signing with the Bulls

Pau Gasol Announces He’s Signing with the Bulls

NBA via Los Angeles Lakers(NEW YORK) -- The free agent dominos have begun to fall in the NBA. Free agent forward/center Pau Gasol has announced via Twitter that he will sign with the Chicago Bulls.

"It hasn't been easy. After meditating it a lot I've chosen to play with the Chicago Bulls. Looking forward to this new chapter of my career," Gasol Tweeted on Saturday.

The 34-year-old Gasol spent over six seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, and helped lead them to two NBA Championships.

Aside from top-tier guys like Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony, Gasol was one of the top names out there on the free agent market.

While he's struggled with durability issues the past couple seasons, he remains one of the better all-around big men and should mesh nicely with All-Star center Joakim Noah.

In 60 games for the Lakers this past season, Gasol averaged 17.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game.

The Bulls have to decide by Wednesday whether nor not they will amnesty forward Carlos Boozer or find a trade destination for him so that they can fit Gasol's contract under the salary cap.

Doug McDermott Ready to Prove He Belongs in the NBA

Doug McDermott Ready to Prove He Belongs in the NBA

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- There may not have been a more polarizing player in the NBA Draft than former Creighton forward Doug McDermott. Now a member of the Chicago Bulls, he's out to prove he can be a productive NBA player as many doubt he's not ready for the next level.

“A lot of people label me as just a spot up shooter, but I think that I’m a lot more than that," McDermott said. "I feel like I can put the ball on the floor and come off of screens really well, so I’ve been working on that a lot."

McDermott is one of the greatest scorers in NCAA history. In his senior season, he led the nation in scoring at 26.7 points per game. His scoring average went up each of his collegiate seasons.

The Denver Nuggets originally selected McDermott 11th overall, but his rights were drafted to the Bulls.

Bulls Trade for McDermott

Bulls Trade for McDermott

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- In the first of many anticipated moves, the Chicago Bulls traded to get former Creighton star Doug McDermott at the NBA Draft on Thursday night. The Bulls gave up both of their first-round picks to get the sharp-shooting forward.

McDermott was drafted by the Denver Nuggets, who also get Anthony Randolph and a future second-rounder with the 11th overall pick. Chicago originally held the 16th and 19th overall picks, selecting Jusuf Nurkic and Gary Harris before the deal.

McDermott was the consensus player of the year in college basketball this past season, averaging 26.7 points per game and shooting over fifty percent from the field. The 6'7" forward also shot 45 percent from three-point range as a senior, finishing fifth all-time on the NCAA scoring chart with 3,150 points.

Chicago was the lowest scoring team in the NBA in 2013-14, scoring 93.7 points per game while shooting just 33.3 percent from downtown. The Bulls are expected to be a top destination for free agent forward Carmelo Anthony, and they're hopeful the acquisition of McDermott boosts their odds.

Carmelo Anthony Opts Out

Carmelo Anthony Opts Out

Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- New York Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony has informed the team that he will opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent. Anthony, who had hinted towards the decision during the regular season, will be able to negotiate with any team on July 1.

Anthony has the ability to sign a maximum contract worth $96 million over five years with any team outside of the Knicks. Should he choose to resign with New York, the small forward could command a max deal worth $129 million.

Sources close to Anthony say the Chicago Bulls are one team that he would consider playing for. Among others that could garner his services are the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. ESPN.com reported earlier in June that the Miami Heat have also inquired about signing Anthony. Meanwhile, Knicks president Phil Jackson had expressed his hope that Anthony would "opt in" to the final year of his deal and test free agency in 2015.

New York went 37-45 this past season, led by Anthony's 27.4 points per game. Should he leave, Anthony would become the fifth player in the last 30 years to change teams after averaging more than 27 points that year and the first to do so since LeBron James.
