Indians P Carlos Carrasco Hit In Face By Line Drive

Indians P Carlos Carrasco Hit In Face By Line Drive Brian D. Kersey/Getty Images(CLEVELAND) -- Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco was treated at a hospital for a bruised jaw after he was carted off the field in the top of the first inning of Tuesday night's 4-1 loss, when Chicago White Sox outfielder Melky Cabrera hit a line drive back to the mound, connecting with the pitcher's face. Carrasco was flattened by the sharp liner that appeared to glance off his glove and right hand before smacking him on the right side of the face. The right-hander fell to the ground in front of the mound as manager Terry Francona and a trainer quickly raced out to check on him. Following the game, Francona said X-rays and a CT scan on Carrasco were negative and that he only suffered a bad bruise. Carrasco felt good enough to return to Progressive Field before the game ended. He'll be re-evaluated on Wednesday. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Indians C Yan Gomes Out 6-8 Weeks with MCL Sprain

Indians C Yan Gomes Out 6-8 Weeks with MCL Sprain Major League Baseball(CLEVELAND) --  Yan Gomes is expected to miss six to eight weeks after an MRI confirmed that the Indians catcher has a sprained right knee. The Indians placed Gomes on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, one day after he injured his knee on a play at the plate in Cleveland's loss to the Detroit Tigers. The team provided a medical update on Gomes during Sunday's series finale. The Indians said an MRI performed at the Cleveland Clinic revealed Gomes suffered a "moderate'' sprain to his MCL. His leg was jolted violently by Detroit outfielder Rajai Davis, who slid hard on a force play and clipped the catcher's right leg. Gomes was extended at the time like a first baseman making a catch. "Losing Gomes, man, that can be a season-killer," Indians manager Terry Francona said Sunday. Last season, Gomes led all AL catchers in average (.278) and extra-base hits (49). He was second in RBIs (74) and homers (21) and handled one of baseball's youngest starting staffs. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Indians Agree to Contract Extension with Pitcher Carlos Carrasco

Indians Agree to Contract Extension with Pitcher Carlos Carrasco iStockphoto/Thnkstock(NEW YORK) -- First the Cleveland Indians locked up ace Cory Kluber, now they've given their number two starter an extension as they've agreed on a deal with Carlos Carrasco. Carrasco's new deal will pay him through the 2018 season while also including club options for the 2019 and 2020 season. This is quite the career turnaround for Carrasco, who at one point was an after-thought for the team. He was highly regarded pitching prospect during his time with the Philadelphia Phillies, and was the centerpiece in the deal sending Cliff Lee to Philadelphia in July 2009. Toiling back and forth from the rotation and bullpen, Carrasco seemed to figure things out last season as he went 8-7 with a 2.55 ERA in 14 starts and 26 appearances out of the bullpen. In a 10-start stretch for hte Indians from August-September, he went 5-3 with a 1.30 ERA along with 90 strikeouts in 69.0 innings. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright ? 2015, ABC Radio. BB Abbot, Kluber's agent, was confident that a deal would be reached as of Saturday. "It's slow going, but I'm encouraged," said Abbott on Saturday. "We continue to talk and try to find a middle ground. The conversations have been cordial." Kluber will headline a rotation that includes Carlos Carrasco, Trevor Bauer, Zach McAllister and TJ House. The deal will become official once Kluber passes a physical.  Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Floyd Inks 1-Year Deal with Indians Major League Baseball(CLEVELAND) -- The Cleveland Indians signed starting pitcher Gavin Floyd to a one-year contract Tuesday. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the deal is worth $4 million and could earn Floyd another $6 million in incentives. The 31-year-old Floyd made only five starts in 2013 before undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. We expect him to be fully ready for Spring Training."Before 2013, Floyd was one of the more consistent pitchers in the major leagues. Indians Reward Manager Terry Francona with Extension Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Since taking over the Cleveland Indians, manager Terry Francona has helped turned the Indians around to a competitive team in the American League Central. That is why the team has agreed on an extension with their skipper. Francona's new deal will keep him in an Indians uniform through the 2018 season. It also includes club options for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Indians’ Jason Kipnis Thinks New Contract Led to Poor Season

Indians’ Jason Kipnis Thinks New Contract Led to Poor Season BananaStock/ThinkStock(NEW YORK) -- Even by his standards, Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis has struggled to follow up his breakout 2013 season despite a new contract. Kipnis thinks his new deal is partially to blame for his struggles. "I might have taken it the wrong way," Kipnis told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "There’s one of two ways to go about it. There’s 'Hey, I have the security and the money now I can go out and just play the game of baseball.' I took the way, where, 'I’ve got this money, I’ve got to live up to it.'" "So I might have pressed at the beginning and tried to do too much," he continued. "In hindsight that could have hurt me and played a little part of this season." Last season, Kipnis made the American League All-Star team after he batted .284 with 17 home runs with 84 RBIs and 30 steals. The Indians rewarded Kipnis with a six-year contract extension worth $52.5 million. Kipnis has struggled to live up to the deal this season. Through 119 games, he's hitting .247 with six home runs and 41 RBIs. The 27-year-old Kipnis is a career .264 hitter. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
