Fast Start Powers Cleveland Past Hornets

Fast Start Powers Cleveland Past Hornets

Christian Petersen/Getty Images(CLEVELAND) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers jumped out to a 21-0 lead over New Orleans and pulled away in the third as the Cavaliers (14-9) defeated the Hornets (6-18) 97-88 on Monday night.

It was the third straight loss for New Orleans and the sixth straight home win for Cleveland.

"We had a lull in the second quarter and in the third quarter, which really allowed them to get back in the game, but we sustained the effort for close to 48 minutes," Cavaliers forward LeBron James said.

The 21-0 lead to open the game is the largest since a 22-0 lead for Portland against Boston in 2004.

"Being 21 down against an elite team on their floor is tough to overcome," Hornets coach Steve Clifford said. "We played a good enough offensive game to win against a terrific team, but our first-quarter defense was obviously poor."

Despite trailing 21-0, the Hornets did fight back and closed the gap to within two points. However, after cutting the deficit to 59-57, New Orleans watched as the Cavs went on a 21-9 run to end the third.

James finished with 27 points and 13 rebounds while Kevin Love added 22 points and 28 rebounds for Cleveland. Meanwhile, Kemba Walker led the way for the Hornets, pouring in 24 points while Al Jefferson added 14.

LeBron Leads Cleveland to Sixth Straight Win

LeBron Leads Cleveland to Sixth Straight Win

Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images(TORONTO) -- LeBron James had 24 points and a season-high 13 assists as the Cleveland Cavaliers dominated Eastern Conference-leading Toronto 105-91 on Friday. It was the sixth straight win for the Cavaliers (11-7), who avenged an earlier home loss to the Raptors (15-5).

"I feel really good with where I am but I feel even greater as far as where our team is right now," said James.

The Cavaliers held Toronto to 40.7 percent shooting (35-of-86) while picking up seven steals in the win. Cleveland also out-rebounded the Raptors 48 to 40 as Kevin Love controlled the glass with a game-high 13 boards. The Cavs led 30-21 despite 12 points from Amir Johnson, who finished with a game-high 27 points for Toronto.

Cleveland eventually held a 51-44 advantage at the break but the Raptors took their first lead on Kyle Lowrie's three-pointer with 7:14 to play in the third, a 58-57 edge. The Cavaliers quickly regained control, going on a 16-2 run and never looked back. It was the third loss in five games for Toronto.

Timberwolves Offer Max Deal to Bledsoe

Timberwolves Offer Max Deal to Bledsoe

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly offered a maximum contract to restricted free-agent Eric Bledsoe in hopes of a sign-and-trade deal with the Phoenix Suns, Bledsoe's current team.

The deal is for a reported four years and $63 million, exceeding the Suns offer of four years and $48 million. Bledsoe has told the Suns, as well as other teams, that he would only consider a max contract but would be willing to sign a qualifying offer worth one year and $3.7 million. By signing that deal, Bledsoe would make himself an unrestricted free agent following the 2014-15 season.

Minnesota had inquired about Bledsoe while shopping all-star forward Kevin Love, but trade talks never reached a serious point. The Timberwolves are hoping to pair Bledsoe with Andrew Wiggins, whom they acquired from Cleveland for Love.

Phoenix has already started making possible arrangements for life after Bledsoe. The Suns signed free-agent Isaiah Thomas and drafted Tyler Ennis in the first-year player draft in June. Bledsoe averaged 17.7 points per game for Phoenix last season.

Timberwolves Admit Kevin Love Trade ‘Likely’ to Happen

Timberwolves Admit Kevin Love Trade ‘Likely’ to Happen

NBA via Minnestoa Timberwolves(NEW YORK) -- As each day passes, it looks more and more like Kevin Love's days with the Minnesota Timberwolves are coming to an end as team owner Glen Taylor admits that a trade is "likely."

"I'm saying it's most likely because Kevin has made it pretty clear that that's what he wants to do," Taylor told the Pioneer Press.

Rumors have swirled all offseason, and even before, that Love would not sign a contract extension with the team and that he will pursue free agency once his contract expires.

While the team wants to retain Love, they realize that trading him may be the only way to salvage anything from an imminent departure.

Reportedly, Love may be traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a multi-player and possibly multi-team trade that would include number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins.

Wiggins signed his rookie contract last week, and the team must wait 30 days after signing his deal to trade him, making a late August trade a possible time frame for a deal to happen.

This past season, Love averaged 26.1 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, both top-5 in the NBA.

Cavs Sign Wiggins, Can’t Trade Him for 30 Days

Cavs Sign Wiggins, Can’t Trade Him for 30 Days

Jost West/Getty Images Sport(CLEVELAND, Ohio) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers signed the No. 1 overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft, Andrew Wiggins, on Thursday.

ESPN reports the contract is for four years and will pay Wiggins $5.5 million next season.

The Cavaliers have been talking about sending Wiggins as part of a package deal to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love, but because of NBA rules involving rookie contracts, Wiggins can't be traded for 30 days.

The 6-foot-8, 19-year-old Wiggins averaged 17.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and a block per game last season at Kansas.

The Cavaliers also signed second-round pick Joe Harris Thursday.

Sources: Cavaliers to Sign Top Pick Wiggins

Sources: Cavaliers to Sign Top Pick Wiggins

Christian Petersen/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Despite the rumored talks between Minnesota and Cleveland that include trading Andrew Wiggins for Kevin Love, sources now say the Cavaliers plan to sign their top draft pick later this week. Those same sources also say the delay in signing Wiggins has nothing to do with the apparent trade talks.

Instead, the Cavs have been reportedly weighing how to use the remaining $1.4 million available to them after signing the Kansas forward. Wiggins' contract will net him in the neighborhood of a reported $5.5 million as a rookie. Once signed, Cleveland must wait at least 30 days before they can trade him.

After the Cavs sign Wiggins, they are expected to ink Mike Miller to a two-year $5.6 million deal.

Cleveland has also been rumored to have interest in Ray Allen, a teammate with Miller in Miami. However, the Cavaliers would only be able to give Allen the league minimum of $1.4 million.

All of these front office moves have been to try and build the best possible team around returning forward LeBron James.

Cavaliers’ David Blatt Says Team Won’t Trade Andrew Wiggins

Cavaliers’ David Blatt Says Team Won’t Trade Andrew Wiggins

Jost West/Getty Images Sport(NEW YORK) -- With rumors flying that the Cleveland Cavaliers could now shift their attention to acquiring Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Kevin Love, head coach David Blatt says the team will not trade Andrew Wiggins in any potential deal for Love.

"There's no reason or cause for worry on his part because Andrew's not going anywhere, as far as I know and as far as the club has expressed," Blatt told reporters Saturday.

Wiggins was the number one overall pick by the Cavaliers in the NBA Draft last June. Many see him as a potential franchise player, and the team is reluctant to give him up.

"I would think for a guy like Andrew, to have the opportunity to play with arguably one of the best players of all time, and to learn from him and to be tutored by him and to play alongside him -- which he will -- I gotta think that's a tremendous boost to his confidence and his comfort level and probably his motivation," Blatt told reporters.

Love is reportedly "intrigued" by the idea of playing with James in Cleveland, but it remains to be seen if the Cavaliers can bring him on board without giving up Wiggins.

ESPN: Warriors Weighing Trade for Kevin Love

ESPN: Warriors Weighing Trade for Kevin Love

Minnesota Timberwovles/NBA(NEW YORK) -- If the Golden State Warriors truly want to get their hands on Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star forward Kevin Love, they'll have to pay a heavy price. ESPN reports that the team is seriously weighing their options to find what it would take to acquire him via trade.

Reportedly the Timberwolves are asking for a future first-round pick, Klay Thompson, David Lee, and maybe Harrison Barnes in exchange for Love and Kevin Martin.

That is a steep price to pay, but Love is arguably one of the best players in the NBA. This past season, the 25-year-old averaged 26.1 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. He was the only player in the NBA this past season to be in the top-5 in points and rebounds.

Despite Love's immense talent, he hasn't made it to the playoffs during his six-year career. While he hasn't officially asked for a trade, he is likely to opt out of his contract next season to test free agency.

Other than the Warriors, the Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics have reportedly engaged in trade talks for Love.

Ricky Rubio Will Pitch Kevin Love on Staying in Minnesota

Ricky Rubio Will Pitch Kevin Love on Staying in Minnesota

Thomas Northcut/Digital Images(NEW YORK) -- With rumors growing that Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Kevin Love wants to be traded sooner than later, his teammate, Ricky Rubio, will do his best to convince Love to stay with the organization.

"I don't want to convince him if he doesn't want to stay. But I want him to stay and I'm going to tell him what I think, which is we've been improving each year and he's a great player, he helps us a lot," Rubio told NBA.com.

"I think we need to make the next step. ...The media says it's pretty settled, but I don't know what he thinks. What I've been hearing is from the media, not from him, so I don't trust that. It can be an opinion from you guys. I just really want to talk to him as a teammate," he continued.

While the team has improved their win total each season since Love and Rubio's first season together in 2011, the Timberwolves still haven't made the playoffs since Love entered the NBA in 2008.
