Cardinals LB Abraham Takes Leave, Contemplating Retirement

David Dermer/Diamond Images/Getty Images(TEMPE, Ariz.) -- Arizona Cardinals linebacker John Abraham has taken a leave of absence and told his coach Bruce Arians that he's losing his desire to play football. The 36-year-old Abraham, who is the NFL's all-time active sacks leader (133.5), left the team's win over the San Diego Chargers in the third quarter Monday with a concussion. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Abraham has dealt with severe memory loss for more than a year.

"I think when you get to that age, and for whatever reason, if that game on Monday Night Football and that atmosphere didn't have you flying around like always or more, then something is missing," Arians said. "That's basically what he reflected to me. He said, 'There were times in that game I wasn't in it, and that's not fair to my teammates. I've got to decide if this is what I still really want to do.'"

Abraham was selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. He's played in 192 games since then recording 547 tackles, 47 forced fumbles, and one touchdown.

ESPN: Cowboys LB Sean Lee Has Torn ACL

ESPN: Cowboys LB Sean Lee Has Torn ACL

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee was told on Tuesday that he tore his left ACL and will probably miss the entire 2014 season, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

Lee was hurt during the team's first organized activity workout when he was blocked to the ground by offensive lineman Zack Martin. Lee needed to be helped to the locker room by the members of the Cowboys' training staff. Lee had an MRI Tuesday and while the Cowboys haven't made an official statement, ESPN says Lee was told the MRI confirmed the tear in his anterior cruciate ligament in the left knee. This isn't the first time Lee tore an ACL. In 2008, while at Penn State, Lee tore his right ACL and in 2009 he partially tore his left ACL. "Sean has had to deal with injuries throughout college and also here in the NFL," Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett. "He really does everything he can to get himself ready to play. Unfortunately, he had to deal with a few of those things, but he's as mentally tough as an individual I've ever been around. Whatever the circumstances are, he always puts his best foot forward and strives to be his best. I don't anticipate this being any different."

The 27-year-old Lee has played in 46 games during four seasons with the Cowboys. During that time Lee has compiled 193 tackles, 11 interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
