Report: Bucks Plan on Claiming Kendall Marshall Off Waivers

Report: Bucks Plan on Claiming Kendall Marshall Off Waivers

Jed Jacobson/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- In an effort to save salary cap space, The Los Angeles Lakers waived point guard Kendall Marshall with hopes of re-signing him. Instead, ESPN is reporting that the Milwaukee Bucks will put a claim in on him and his rights will become the team's property.

Marshall started 45 games for the Lakers last season and resurrected his career after he spent time in the NBA Developmental League after he was drafted 13th overall by the Phoenix Suns back in 2012.

The Lakers were hoping that no one would put in a claim on him, and would then re-sign him to a more team-friendly deal.

Even though he has trouble shooting the ball, Marshall has proved himself to be a more that reliable point guard at the NBA level.

In 54 games this past sesaon, Marshall averaged 8.0 points and 8.8 assists per game.

With the Bucks having rookie Jabari Parker and sophomore Giannis Antetokounmpo, Marshall will likely be counted on to be a distributor and lock down the point guard position.

Lakers Claim Boozer off Amnesty Waivers

Lakers Claim Boozer off Amnesty Waivers

Christopher Trotman/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Los Angeles Lakers added to their wealth of big men on Thursday, claiming forward Carlos Boozer off amnesty waivers. The Lakers won a blind bid against nine teams, putting up $3.25 million to garner Boozer's rights, according to reports.

"We're very pleased to have won the bidding process and to have gained his rights, and look forward to his contributions next season," Mitch Kupchak, Lakers general manager, said in a news release.

Boozer was released via the amnesty clause by the Chicago Bulls just over a week ago, making it possible for Chicago to sign free agents Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic. The Bulls still must pay the remaining $13.6 million on his 2014-15 contract, but by utilizing the amnesty clause, the contract comes off the books for salary-cap and luxury-tax purposes.

Los Angeles has already signed a pair of power forwards, reaching agreements with both Ed Davis and Jordan Hill. Boozer averaged 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in 76 contests for Chicago last season.

Paul Pierce Joining the Wizards

Paul Pierce Joining the Wizards

Claus Andersen/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Paul Pierce will don new colors next season. On Saturday, the small forward signed a two-year deal worth $11 million with the Washington Wizards.

Pierce, who spent the 2013-14 season with the Brooklyn Nets, signed a contract that includes a player option for next summer. The Wizards went after Pierce once swingman Trevor Ariza signed a deal with the Houston Rockets.

The ten-time All-Atar averaged just 13.5 points per game, playing only 28 minutes per contest last year with the Nets. Pierce had also garnered interest from such teams as the Dallas Mavericks, Rockets, and Los Angeles Lakers.

Pierce, 36, joined Brooklyn as part of a mega-trade with the Boston Celtics that included Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry.

Pau Gasol Announces He’s Signing with the Bulls

Pau Gasol Announces He’s Signing with the Bulls

NBA via Los Angeles Lakers(NEW YORK) -- The free agent dominos have begun to fall in the NBA. Free agent forward/center Pau Gasol has announced via Twitter that he will sign with the Chicago Bulls.

"It hasn't been easy. After meditating it a lot I've chosen to play with the Chicago Bulls. Looking forward to this new chapter of my career," Gasol Tweeted on Saturday.

The 34-year-old Gasol spent over six seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, and helped lead them to two NBA Championships.

Aside from top-tier guys like Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony, Gasol was one of the top names out there on the free agent market.

While he's struggled with durability issues the past couple seasons, he remains one of the better all-around big men and should mesh nicely with All-Star center Joakim Noah.

In 60 games for the Lakers this past season, Gasol averaged 17.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game.

The Bulls have to decide by Wednesday whether nor not they will amnesty forward Carlos Boozer or find a trade destination for him so that they can fit Gasol's contract under the salary cap.

Clippers Sign Farmar to Two-Year Deal

Clippers Sign Farmar to Two-Year Deal

Lisa Blumenfeld/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- After backup point guard Darren Collison left for Sacramento, the Los Angeles Clippers only had to look across the street for his replacement. The Clippers have snagged Jordan Farmar from the Los Angeles Lakers, signing him to a two-year deal.

The deal is worth a reported 4.2 million with a player option for the second season. The Los Angeles Times was the first to report the signing. Teams cannot officially sign until the NBA's moratorium is lifted on July 10.

"[The Clippers] came the hardest basketball-wise; it's probably the best situation out there for me," Farmar said in an interview with ESPNLosAngeles.com. "I turned down more money elsewhere. I get to stay home in L.A. and play for a contender, which is important to me."

Farmar averaged 10.1 points, 4.9 assists, and 2.5 rebounds in 2013-14 for the Lakers after spending a year in Turkey. The 27-year-old battled through multiple injuries, missing 41 games.

Melo Meets with Knicks and Lakers

Melo Meets with Knicks and Lakers

Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Thursday was a busy day for one of the NBA's most sought after free agents. After spending two hours meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers, Carmelo Anthony also spent time with his most recent team in the New York Knicks.

Anthony sat down with members of both team's leadership and discussed possible terms of contracts as he enters his first ever free agency period. The Lakers contingent was reportedly to include star Kobe Bryant, but the small forward was unable to get back to California in time following a family vacation in Europe. Bryant did say he planned to met with Anthony later in the day.

Following a two and a half hour meeting, Los Angeles told the small forward they would be willing to offer him maximum contract worth $96 million over four years. If Anthony chose to stay with the Knicks, he could garner a five-year deal with a $129 million price tag. New York reiterated to Anthony that he would be given such a contract if he chose to stay.

Anthony has also met with Chicago, Dallas, and Houston during this free agency period.

Rick Fox Says He’ll Be ‘Impressed’ If Miami Heat Get Three-Peat

Rick Fox Says He’ll Be ‘Impressed’ If Miami Heat Get Three-Peat

Thomas Northcut/Digital Vision(NEW YORK) -- Rick Fox understands what it takes to get to an NBA Finals four years in a row, having been part of the last NBA team to win three titles in a row with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2000-2002. Fox said if the Miami Heat win the championship again this year, he'd give the team props.

"Their margin for error when it comes to health is really narrow," Fox told ABC Sports Radio on Monday. "If they win and they make it through, I'll be extremely impressed having played into June for four straight years in a row."

Reflecting on his own wins, Fox said that he enjoyed the second NBA title with the Lakers in 2001 the most because the team clicked on all cylinders.

"It was the purist run to a championship," Fox said.  "We almost went undefeated and we knew what we were doing.  We were on a high level of aptitude with the triangle, it was effortless."

Fox, who studied radio and television during his time at North Carolina, also weighed in on Rashad McCant's controversy, where the athlete admitted he had tutors write many of his term papers during matriculation and barely went to class.

"What was demanded of us was to be student athletes first," Fox said.  "That's not the experience I had or the experience of any of my teammates would tell you they had."

"He's a bit of an outlier in that respect and in my estimation a liar in the other," he continued. "It's unfortunate that he's taken that route."

Fox is currently staring in Off Season, available on Vimeo and on Demand. He also stars in VH1's Hit the Floor, which airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Byron Scott Think He’d be a Perfect Fit for the Lakers

Byron Scott Think He’d be a Perfect Fit for the Lakers

Chris Chambers/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- As the Los Angeles Lakers continue their search for a new head coach, a familiar face hopes to take over the team as Byron Scott has publicly advocated that he hopes to get the job.

Scott spent 11 of his 14-year NBA career with the Lakers, and even was a former teammate of guard Kobe Bryant.

The Lakers have fallen on hard times as of late, and Scott feels that he's the right man to help get the team back to the postseason.

"I think it's the best organization in all of basketball," Scott said. "It would mean a great deal to me, just because of that, No. 1, that I've played for this organization. I know what it's all about. It's all about winning championships, and No. 2, for Dr. [Jerry] Buss, who was a guy who defended me when I was coaching."

Scott has been a head coach for the New Jersey Nets as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In 13 seasons as a coach, Scott has gone 416-521.
