Knicks’ Derek Fisher Fires Back at People Complaining About Team’s Win Streak

Knicks’ Derek Fisher Fires Back at People Complaining About Team’s Win Streak Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The New York Knicks seemed all but certain to get the most ping pong balls in the NBA Draft Lottery by securing the worst record in the NBA. But after a two-game winning streak that is no longer guaranteed, and head coach Derek Fisher doesn't care. "I'm sure people are upset with us," Fisher said. "But I don't think you can ever go out there and basically try and not play your best. Those two things don't go together." Securing the worst record gives you a 25% chance of getting the number one pick, and guarantees a top-4 pick. If the Thunder beat the Timberwolves on Wednesday, they clinch the worst record in the league. If the Knicks beat the Pistons and the Sixers lose to the Heat on Wednesday, then they tie for the second-worst mark in the NBA. "That has no bearing on these guys' lives and their careers and their livelihoods -- who we pick next year," Fisher said. "This is about them, and they went out and played that way." The Knicks haven't had the number one pick since 1985 when they drafted Patrick Ewing. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

76ers’ Brett Brown Expects Joel Embiid to Make NBA Debut in Summer League

76ers’ Brett Brown Expects Joel Embiid to Make NBA Debut in Summer League Cooper Neil/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Philadelphia 76ers fans have been patiently awaiting the debut of prized rookie center Joel Embiid, and it looks like they'll finally have a chance to see him play this summer. Head coach Brett Brown said he “personally” would be disappointed if Embiid didn’t play in the summer league. Embiid has not played a single game this season as he recovers from a foot injury that required surgery prior to the 2014 NBA Draft. “Personally, I expect him to play in the summer league,” Brown said via Keith Pompey of Philly.com.  “But if I guessed any of this wrong, I want to make sure that the club is on record not being definitive. We are not in the position to say that now.” “I just feel like it’s too definitive if we come out and say he’s definitely playing now,” Brown added. “It’s not so much any trepidation I have to 100 percent declare it. I don’t feel like it’s responsible to say that now. He’s heading in that direction.” A possible number one pick, Embiid slipped to number three in the draft partially due to concern over his health. Embiid spent one season at Kansas where he averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

ESPN: Sixers Waive Center JaVale McGee

ESPN: Sixers Waive Center JaVale McGee NBA via Denver Nuggets(NEW YORK) -- Despite letting it be known that he had hoped to stay in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia 76ers have waived center JaVale McGee after just six games with the team. McGee was acquired during the trade deadline in a trade with the Denver Nuggets. The Sixers waived McGee prior to the midnight deadline that makes McGee eligible to appear in the playoffs this season with another team. Not only will McGee now have a chance to sign with a contending team, he will still earn next season's $12 million salary as well as the remainder of his $11.25 million salary this season. "I don't want to get bought out," McGee told local reporters shortly after the trade. "That's not a positive thing. When you think about it, you don't get all of your money when you get bought out." The 27-year-old McGee is in the midst of his seventh NBA season. In six games with the Sixers, he averaged 3.0 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10.2 minutes per game. Michael Carter-Williams Ready to Get Back to Work

Michael Carter-Williams Ready to Get Back to Work Jim McIssac/Getty Images(KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.) -- Philadelphia 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams is expected to be ready for camp in late September. The 2014 Rookie of the Year had surgery on May 13 to repair his labrum in his right shoulder and said he's not 100 percent, but plans to be on the court. "I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things," Williams said. "Last year was a long year. I’m really looking forward to this year and improving as a team." "I think regardless who is on the team, I have to be a leader out there, give direction to the new guys and really bring the team together," Carter-Williams continued. The 22-year-old led all rookies in scoring (16.7 points), assists (6.3), rebounds (6.2) and steals (1.9), but still hasn't been cleared to play. The Sixers had one of the worst records in NBA history last year after they finished 19-63. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Sixers Roll the Dice on Center Joel Embiid

Sixers Roll the Dice on Center Joel Embiid Cooper Neil/Getty Images(PHILADELPHIA) -- For the third-straight year, the Philadelphia 76ers are bringing in a center who very well could sit out for the entire season. With the third pick in Thursday night's NBA Draft, the team selected former Kansas center Joel Embiid. Once considered to be the number one overall prospect in the draft, Embiid fell to third because he recently underwent surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right foot. That injury, along with a back issue, could keep the talented big man out of action his entire rookie season. "For my back injury, it hurt me. But I saw the doctors and they said I was going to be fine," Embiid said after getting drafted. "And unfortunately this foot injury happened a week before the draft. But I believe in God and God knew what he was doing, I've always said that and I'm going to just keep praising him." During his lone season at Kansas, Embiid dominated opponents. He averaged 11.2 points and 8.1 rebounds while blocking 72 shots. Last season, the 76ers selected center Nerlens Noel, who sat out the entire season as he recovered from a torn ACL.
