Jonathan Papelbon Would Like to Be Traded If Phillies Continue to Lose

Jonathan Papelbon Would Like to Be Traded If Phillies Continue to LoseLen Redkoles/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Philadelphia Phillies have stumbled out of hte gate to begin the 2015 season, and if they don't pick it up, closer Jonathan Papelbon would like to be traded. Papelbon is still an elite closer, but with the Phillies just 6-11, his skills largely go wasted because the team can't get to him enough. In an interview with CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury, Papelbon was asked he'd be disappointed if he wasn't traded. “Yeah, I will be,” Papelbon said. “If we continue to lose. “If we can rebuild this situation and make it right, and we can get some wins underneath our belt and Ryne Sandberg can get us going, that’s a whole different story. To me, that’s a better part of the story because now I’ve been a part of this remodeling. I’ve been a part of getting this bullpen correct. I’ve been a part of something that’s becoming a winning tradition and going back to the way it was before I got here. To me, there’s no better reward than that.” Papelbon is a four-time All-Star, and has yet to give up and earned run this season. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. Indians Agree to Contract Extension with Pitcher Carlos Carrasco

Indians Agree to Contract Extension with Pitcher Carlos Carrasco iStockphoto/Thnkstock(NEW YORK) -- First the Cleveland Indians locked up ace Cory Kluber, now they've given their number two starter an extension as they've agreed on a deal with Carlos Carrasco. Carrasco's new deal will pay him through the 2018 season while also including club options for the 2019 and 2020 season. This is quite the career turnaround for Carrasco, who at one point was an after-thought for the team. He was highly regarded pitching prospect during his time with the Philadelphia Phillies, and was the centerpiece in the deal sending Cliff Lee to Philadelphia in July 2009. Toiling back and forth from the rotation and bullpen, Carrasco seemed to figure things out last season as he went 8-7 with a 2.55 ERA in 14 starts and 26 appearances out of the bullpen. In a 10-start stretch for hte Indians from August-September, he went 5-3 with a 1.30 ERA along with 90 strikeouts in 69.0 innings. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright ? 2015, ABC Radio. Phillies Place Starting Pitcher Cliff Lee on the 60-Day DL

Phillies Place Starting Pitcher Cliff Lee on the 60-Day DL Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(CLEARWATER, Fla.) -- The career of former all-star Cliff Lee is in doubt, as the Philadelphia Phillies have placed the starting pitcher on the 60-day disabled list with an elbow injury. Lee has been bothered by the injury, which dates back to last season. He's refused to undergo surgery, saying he'd rather retire then go under the knife. Instead, he'll try and rehab the injury for the third time. "We tried twice and it didn't work, so it's fairly likely that it will remain the same," Lee said. "As we get closer to the threshold of being able to have the surgery or not to make it for next year, as we get closer to that I'll have a decision to make and obviously we'll know a lot more at that point." Lee, a former American League Cy Young winner, is entering the final guaranteed season of a $120 million, five-year contract. He'll make $25 million this season and is eligible for a $12.5 million buyout next season. If Lee is unable to successfully rehab his elbow, it will likely be the end of his 13-year career. Phillies Shut Down Cliff Lee

Phillies Shut Down Cliff Lee Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(PHILADELPHIA, Pa.) -- Cliff Lee will be riding the pine for a while as he attempts to recuperate from elbow soreness. The Phillies temporarily shut Lee down and ordered an MRI. The exam revealed no ligament damage, but Lee will miss his next start. "Any time it's the elbow, you have to be concerned," said Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. "We have to be concerned because it's the area he felt something before. "We don't think it's acute, but we have to be cautious." Since 2010, over 100 major league pitchers have undergone so-called Tommy John elbow ligament reconstruction surgery. According to pitching injury expert Glenn Fleisig, fatigue is a major contributor to the injury.  Lee started only 13 games last season as he dealt with elbow soreness. He went 4-5 with a 3.65 ERA. Royals Agree on Minor League Deal with Reliever Ryan Madson

Royals Agree on Minor League Deal with Reliever Ryan Madson Rob Carr/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Former Philadelphia Phillies reliever/closer Ryan Madson hasn't given up on pitching in the Major Leagues as he's agreed on a minor league deal with the Kansas City Royals. The deal includes an invitation to major league spring training camp. The 34-year-old Madson hasn't thrown a pitch in a Major League game since 2011 when he went 4-2 with a 2.37 ERA to go along with a career-high 32 saves. That offseason, Madson hit the free agent market as he signed a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Reds worth $8.5 million. He wound up never pitching for the Reds as he underwent Tommy John Surgery in spring training. He tried to make a comeback in 2013 with the Los Angeles Angels, but nothing materialized. He wound up sitting out the entire 2014 season in an attempt to get healthy. Mike Arbuckle, who is now a senior advisor for the Royals, was the Phillies' scouting director in 1998 when the Phillies drafted Madson. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. Phillies’ Jonathan Papelbon Suspended 7 Games for Lewd Gesture

Phillies’ Jonathan Papelbon Suspended 7 Games for Lewd Gesture Tom Szcaerbowski/Getty Images(SAN DIEGO) -- Philadelphia Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon has been suspended seven games by Major League Baseball for making a "lewd gesture" towards the fans and bumping an umpire. Papelbon made the gesture towards the Philadelphia fans as he walked off the mound after blowing a save on Sunday against the San Diego Padres and then bumped into umpire Joe West. While Papelbon admits to bumping West, he says the vulgar motion was not intended towards the Phillies fans. Papelbon grabbed his crotch as he walked off the mound as he was booed by the fans. "While I completely understand how the fans would perceive my gesture while being booed, it was not my intent whatsoever to insult the fans of Philadelphia," Papelbon said. "If it was perceived in that manner, I sincerely apologize." West had a different take though. "The whole thing started because the fans booed him and he made an obscene gesture. He had no business doing that," he said. "He's got to be more professional than that. And that's why he was ejected." Now in his third season with the Phillies, Papelbon actually has a very good season for the last place club. He's 2-3 with a 2.10 ERA with 37 saves. Four Phillies Combine for No-Hitter Against Braves

Four Phillies Combine for No-Hitter Against Braves Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images(ATLANTA) -- Phillies starter Cole Hamels left after the sixth inning on Labor Day with a no-hitter in place and watched three other teammates complete the no-hit bid in their 7-0 win over the Braves. Hamels threw 108 pitches and struck out seven with five walks, but was battling the hot Atlanta heat and exited after getting Phil Gosselin to pop out to end the inning. Jake Diekman came into the game, but did not know about the no-hitter until he looked at the scoreboard and struck out two in the seventh. Ken Giles was aware of the combined no-hitter and struck out the side in the eighth inning. Jonathan Papelbon felt the pressure coming in during the bottom of the ninth and retired Gosselin by getting him to line out to first base to complete the 11th combined no-hitter in major league history. Phillies Place Starting Pitcher Cliff Lee on the DL

Phillies Place Starting Pitcher Cliff Lee on the DL Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- The Philadelphia Phillies rough season was dealt yet another blow Thursday.  Starting pitcher Cliff Lee was placed on the disabled list after re-injuring his left elbow, and could miss the rest of the season. In the third inning against the Washington Nationals, Lee threw one pitch to outfielder Denard Span and knew something was wrong. He walked off the field frustrated, knowing that his elbow was hurt yet again. "The last inning, it never fully went away and it came on a little stronger the next six or seven pitches I threw," he said. "It was there every throw and I just felt like if I kept throwing, something was going to snap, and I just wanted to make sure that didn't happen. Lee was making just his third start since returning from the DL for a flexor pronator strain that kept him out of action for two months. The 35-year-old Lee went 6-7 this season with a 3.65 ERA in 13 starts. He's earning $25 million this season. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
