Portland Trail Blazers Clinch Playoff Spot

Portland Trail Blazers Clinch Playoff Spot

Christopher Trotman/Getty Images(PORTLAND, Or.) -- The Portland Trail Blazers are headed back to the NBA playoffs for the second straight season.

With a 109-86 victory over the Phoenix Suns Monday night, the Trail Blazers clinched a playoff spot and will now seek to claim the Northwest Division title.

Seemingly from the start, Portland set out to dominate the game. The Trail Blazers led by 27 at the end of the third period, and five players finished with double digit points.

"I'm not even sure the last time we even won a division title," said Damian Lillard, who scored 19. "I'm sure it's been tough having OKC around. If any year there was a great opportunity, it's this year. We just need to keep playing, focus on ourselves, and everything will work out like it's supposed to."

Portland currently has a 6.5 game lead over the Thunder for the Northwest Division and the two teams will face off on April 13.

Lakers’ Steve Nash Announces His Retirement from the NBA

Lakers’ Steve Nash Announces His Retirement from the NBA

NBA via Los Angeles Lakers(NEW YORK) -- After 19 brilliant seasons in the NBA, Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash has announced his retirement.

The 41-year-old Nash announced his retirement in a letter published on The Player's Tribune website.

"The greatest gift has been to be completely immersed in my passion and striving for something I loved so much -- visualizing a ladder, climbing up to my heroes," Nash wrote. "The obsession became my best friend. I talked to her, cherished her, fought with her and got knocked on my ass by her.

"And that is what I'm most thankful for in my career. In my entire life, in some ways. Obviously, I value my kids and my family more than the game, but in some ways having this friend -- this ever-present pursuit -- has made me who I am, taught me and tested me, and given me a mission that feels irreplaceable. I am so thankful. I've learned so many invaluable lessons about myself and about life. And of course I still have so much to learn. Another incredible gift."

A two-time MVP, Nash has all but punched his ticket to the Hall of Fames as he will go down as one of the greatest point guards in NBA history.

Nash retires with career averages of 14.3 points and 8.5 assists per game. His 10,335 assists ranks third all-time in NBA history.

Suns Trade Goran Dragic to Heat

Suns Trade Goran Dragic to Heat

Christopher Trottman/Getty Images(PHOENIX) -- According to ESPN.com's Marc Stein, the Phoenix Suns have shipped point guard Goran Dragic to the Miami Heat.

The deal consisted of Dragic and his brother Zoran in return for Danny Granger, Justin Hamilton, and two first-round picks from the Heat. However, it is still unknown if there are other pieces involved in the deal.

Dragic went on the trading block earlier this week because he wasn't happy with the Suns' crowded backcourt, which also featured Isaiah Thomas and Eric Bledsoe.  Now Dragic will have a much bigger role in Miami, pairing him up with superstars Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade.

Suns’ Suspend Forward P.J. Tucker

Suns’ Suspend Forward P.J. Tucker

Ingrim Publishing/Thinkstock(BOSTON) -- After already being suspended once this season, the Phoenix Suns have decided to suspend forward P.J. Tucker for violating team rules.

Tucker was inactive for the team's game on Sunday against the Boston Celtics, and it was later revealed by Suns spokeswoman Julie Fie that Tucker "basically missed the plane" to Boston on Sunday.

This latest suspension comes fresh off Tucker's three-game suspension that came earlier this season after he pleaded guilty to "super extreme" driving while intoxicated.

Tucker had a blood alcohol level of .222 back on May 10 when he was arrested by police. The legal limit in Arizona is .08.

Now in his fourth NBA season, Tucker signed a three-year contract with the Suns over the summer worth $16.5 million.

The 29-year-old Tucker has gotten off to a slow start this year. In seven games this season, he's averaging 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

Suns Reward Marcus and Markieff Morris with Contract Extensions

Suns Reward Marcus and Markieff Morris with Contract Extensions

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- After expressing a desire to continue their NBA playing careers together, the Phoenix Suns have announced they've reach contract extensions with twins Marcus and Markieff Morris.

The Arizona Republic reports Markieff has agreed on a four-year deal worth $32 million, while Marcus will receive a four-year deal worth $20 million.

"We are particularly pleased to have reached extension agreements with Marcus and Markieff before the start of training camp," Suns' president of basketball operations Lon Babby said in a release. "There is an extraordinary bond between these twin brothers; they make each other better players and better men. We take pride in their growth and look forward to their bright futures."

The Morris twins played together at the University of Kansas, but began their NBA careers on separate teams as Marcus was drafted by the Houston Rockets, but was traded to Phoenix in 2013 where the two were re-united.

Last season, Marcus averaged 9.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game while Markeiff averaged 13.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Suns Agree to 5-Year Deal with Eric Bledsoe

Suns Agree to 5-Year Deal with Eric Bledsoe

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Phoenix Suns have agreed to a five-year, $70 million deal with restricted free-agent guard Eric Bledsoe. The deal comes after an offseason that was filled with rumors of Bledsoe leaving Phoenix. In the end, he gets the largest restricted free-agent contract this offseason. Bledsoe only played in 43 games last season because of a torn meniscus. When he was in the lineup, the Suns were noticeably better, going 28-15 compared to 20-19 without him. The 24-year-old finished the 2013-14 season averaging 17.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.6 steals.

Timberwolves Offer Max Deal to Bledsoe

Timberwolves Offer Max Deal to Bledsoe

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly offered a maximum contract to restricted free-agent Eric Bledsoe in hopes of a sign-and-trade deal with the Phoenix Suns, Bledsoe's current team.

The deal is for a reported four years and $63 million, exceeding the Suns offer of four years and $48 million. Bledsoe has told the Suns, as well as other teams, that he would only consider a max contract but would be willing to sign a qualifying offer worth one year and $3.7 million. By signing that deal, Bledsoe would make himself an unrestricted free agent following the 2014-15 season.

Minnesota had inquired about Bledsoe while shopping all-star forward Kevin Love, but trade talks never reached a serious point. The Timberwolves are hoping to pair Bledsoe with Andrew Wiggins, whom they acquired from Cleveland for Love.

Phoenix has already started making possible arrangements for life after Bledsoe. The Suns signed free-agent Isaiah Thomas and drafted Tyler Ennis in the first-year player draft in June. Bledsoe averaged 17.7 points per game for Phoenix last season.

PJ Tucker Sentenced to Three Days in Jail for ‘Super’ DUI

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) -- P.J. Tucker, forward for the Phoenix Suns, was sentenced to three days in jail and 11 days of home detention on Monday for "super extreme" driving under the influence.

Tucker pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him following a May 10 arrest in Scottsdale.

Authorities say that Tucker's blood alcohol content was .22 at the time of the arrest and that his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot.

Along with the jail time, he also agreed to put an interlock device in his car for 18 months, enter substance abuse counseling, and pay fines up to $2,750. Tucker was also placed on probation for up to five years.

"I am truly sorry and I take full responsibility for my actions. No excuses," Tucker said in a statement. "It is now my responsibility to examine my life and make the changes necessary to ensure this never happens again."

The details of his punishment and statement were released by his attorney's after his appearance in court.

Phoenix was aware of the arrest when Tucker signed a three-year deal with $16.5 million in July.

"In considering this matter, we concluded that P.J. was sincere in his remorse and in his resolve to accept the consequences of his actions," Suns president of basketball operations Lon Babby said. "We are convinced that he will take the necessary steps to avoid any such conduct in the future. The Suns do not in any way condone his conduct, but we do support him as he works through this."
